Sulphur Springs is located in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas, on State Road 59, 2 miles south of the Missouri State Line, 9 miles east of Oklahoma State Line -a scenic drive by car through forests and fields. Flights to this area arrive at the new Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, which is less than 30 miles away. The area is known for "river floats", cave explorations, arts and crafts fairs, antique shopping and beautiful hills. There are two caves to explore nearby. Bentonville and Harbor Village are 25 miles. The Scenic Railway at Springdale is 45 miles and Eureka Springs; a Victorian village is 65 miles.

We have some wonderful news and a little “sneak preview” to let you in on the latest about Summer School at the Ozark Theosophical Education Center. The Camp and Educational Center is located in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, located in the northwest corner of the state. Our summer school program will be held the first weekend of June, beginning on Thursday evening, June 5, for pot luck, through Sunday noon, June 6.
Doss McDavid, Ph.D, and Joyce McDavid, Ph.D, from San Antonio, Texas will be the major speakers for this event. Doss will present on: Esoteric Legends, Stories, and Traditions. Joyce will do a couple sessions on Feng Shui and/or Chinese metaphysics.
Other presentations and activities will be provided by members including “The Balance of Change” by Elwin Barrett, Ph.D.; yoga activities by Gini Newcomb; Qigong and Tai Chi activities by Elwin Barrett; and facilitated mediations.

Joyce McDavid, Ph.D, has been a member of the Theosophical Society for 45 years and was a regional coordinator for the society under President Dora Kunz. She is a retired Montessori teacher and pursued a doctorate in psychology with an emphasis in Jungian Psychology. Since 1984, she has been studying Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of placement. Since 2001, she has been instructed in the Chinese arts taught by Master Joseph Yu who is living in Toronto since emigrating from China some years ago. In 2007, Master Yu designated her Master of Feng Shui. She continues to deepen her studies with him learning I Ching, Four Pillars Astrology, and other systems of Chinese metaphysics. The type of Feng Shui practiced by his school is called Xuan Kong Feng Shui that simply put means the school of time-space practice.
Doss McDavid, Ph.D, was born San Antonio, Texas. He was educated in the University of Texas system and received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSCSA) in 1976. His area of study was Medical Physics with an emphasis on diagnostic radiology. Following a year of postgraduate training, Mr. McDavid was appointed to a faculty position in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science at UTHSCSA with a cross-appointment in the Department of Radiology. He received tenure in 1985 and was promoted to Professor in 1991.
In recognition for his work in dental radiography, Doss was awarded the degree of Doctor of Odontology honoris causa by Umea University in Sweden. He has published numerous research articles, chapters, and books. With the assistance of a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating board, Dr. McDavid and his co-workers developed the first digital panoramic x-ray device in America. He holds several patents and is one of the three founders of RadWorks Corporation, a private company for the commercialization of patented technology developed at the University of Texas.
As an undergraduate, he became acquainted with Rosicrucianism and Theosophy. He has been an active worker in the San Antonio Branch and the Texas Federation of the Theosophical Society for over thirty-five years. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the American Section. He has developed study courses and educational materials for theosophists and students of mysticism and has traveled extensively giving lectures and seminars to theosophical and other philosophical groups.
